Stemcor is the world’s largest independent steel trader. Our services span every step in the steel supply chain and include finance, provision of raw materials, steel trading, distribution and stockholding. With turnover exceeding £5bn in 2010, we trade around 20 million tonnes of steel and steel-making raw materials per annum through a network of 125 offices across the globe. Stemcor aims to be the partner of choice for producers and purchasers of steel in every part of the world. We achieve this by nurturing strong business relationships, by continuously improving our processes and by adding value at every step - from mine head to factory floor.
The role
We currently have a unique opportunity for two recent graduates to join us as Trainee Traders and become part of the expansion plans for our businesses in Norway and Sweden.
Our Trainee Traders learn through an apprenticeship style model which covers all elements of international trading, from negotiation and contracts through to shipping and finance. Working alongside experienced traders, trainees support the execution of their trades, developing their understanding of the steel trading process. As a trader you will be expected to manage all aspects of the international steel trading business, including:
• Identifying potential sources, customers, markets and products to develop
• Enhancing existing and new relationships
• Purchasing from suppliers and selling to customers at the best possible prices and commercial conditions to minimise risk and maximise market presence and returns for Stemcor
• Managing the execution of the transactions until delivery and payment has been completed
We provide introductory workshops on all aspects of the trading process and our business, alongside formal training on our bespoke trading system and a series of short external courses. As a Trainee you will enjoy early responsibility and opportunity for advancement.
The package
The successful candidates will spend an initial 12 month period undergoing on-the-job training at our European Headquarters in Zug, Switzerland. Accommodation and health insurance will be provided, together with a basic salary. Upon completion of the training program the graduates will then return to Norway / Sweden and will take up Junior Trading positions. The packages will then be commensurate to local market conditions.
Who we are looking for
We are looking to recruit bright, numerate graduates with commercial flair and entrepreneurial ability. Successful candidates should have a university degree, have strong interpersonal skills plus a genuine interest in international trade. Fluency in English and either Norwegian or Swedish is a must and further language skills are an advantage.
